Turning Heads for Over a Century

A proud part of the Delaware Avenue Historic District

Completed in 1903 by prominent Buffalo architect E.B. Green, the mansion was built for  Charles and Ella Goodyear.

The two and a half story house is brick trimmed with ornate wood paneling and multiple stained glass windows in the interior. It has five levels: basement, ground floor, first bedroom floor, second bedroom floor and attic. A spiral staircase with a wrought-iron balustrade and an oak handrail connects the ground to the second bedroom floors. These elements can still be seen today.

As a founder and president of Great Southern Lumber Company and Buffalo and Susquehanna Railroad, Charles Goodyear was highly successful in harvesting timber from Pennsylvania and New York. Among his close friends were U.S. President Grover Cleveland. When King Albert I of Belgium and Queen Elisabeth of Bavaria visited the United States in 1919, they were guests of Charles and Ella in this home.

It’s a crowning jewel of the Delaware Avenue Historic District – then and now.
